(Vrhnika, 1920 - 27.12.1979)
Franc Aco Dremelj was a Slovenian painter and graphic artist. His father was a baker and his mother was a postwoman. He first came into contact with art from his brother Stane Dremelj. He studied in the craft workshop of Ivan Buh in Vrhnika, and later became a famous Slovenian sculptor and medalist. Franc Aco was educated at the School of Arts and Crafts in Ljubljana, where he attended lectures by Prof. Didek.
His interests were primarily in graphic arts and painting. During his studies, he managed to develop his own recognisable style, which he cultivated in his further work. After completing his education, he worked mainly with applied graphics and book illustrations. His first serious commissions were entrusted to him during the national liberation movement. At that time, he produced illustrations for the partisan press. In 1943, he illustrated the first issue of the magazine Mlada Bela Krajina. It was published under the Association of Slovenian Youth for Bela Krajina. He went out into nature several times, where he observed the Slovenian landscape.
He always painted motifs that were close to him, although he did not rely on real landscapes, but Franc Aco created fictional images of nature in his imagination and transferred them to the canvas. He focused mainly on the karst world and bogs, but mountains, forests and meadows also appear. He is one of the few artists who used special painting techniques in the ultra-wide band. In his personal expression, he fluctuates between realism and impressionistic moments. He was an engaged artist. Over time, he expanded his knowledge to the field of colour theory. This was the fundamental emphasis that influenced the final impression of the artwork. His colours are not in accordance with reality, but are often somewhat forced.
The paintings also included bright yellow, blue and green, which are completely different from the colours in the Slovenian landscape. With them, he created a tense and dark atmosphere that encourages us to look into our own psyche when in contact with the works. His work often depicts willows in a desolate landscape. He has exhibited mainly in group exhibitions in Slovenia. In 2001, he and his brother organized an exhibition in their hometown of Vrhnika.

Didka.
V ospredju njegovega zanimanja sta bili grafika in slikarstvo.
Leta 2001 so jima skupaj z bratom na domači Vrhniki priredili razstavo.
