(Ljubljana, 6.10.1929-Valična vas na Dolenjskem, 4.2.1990)
Peter Adamič was a Slovenian artist who, during his creative career, devoted himself mainly to painting landscapes. He spent a lot of time in Škofja Loka and in the Gorenje region, where he got to know the mountainous nature on a daily basis. In his works of art, which he painted on Slovenian soil, there are various regional peculiarities and the beauty of the landscape. He also included national motifs several times, including Triglav, which at that time was already considered one of the more recognizable symbols of Slovenianness.
He sketched and painted many times in nature. To the extent that he painted in the studio, he focused on still life or portraiture. He painted in oil and watercolor, and during his life he also produced some graphics. Adamič also tried his hand at ceramics and the processing of wooden plates, and quite a few of the photographs he used to help himself with painting have also been preserved. He was an academically trained artist. After finishing high school, he enrolled at the art academy in Ljubljana. There, in 1955, he graduated from prof. Mihelič, who at that time, alongside Pregelj, Pengov and Sedej, was considered a fundamental art pedagogue. Adamic's move has been temperamental since the beginning of creation. Nevertheless, it works with ease and creates a mood in parts. He was more interested in the color and the final feeling that the visitor receives upon contact with the artistic image than the content. Adamic's works are not realistic projections from nature, but are a reflection of the artist's mood, feelings and experiences, which he formed towards the artistic subject.
His paintings contain several spatial plans. The artist did not deepen these with the help of optical aids, as he largely tried to distance himself from official academic approaches in his expression. He also proved this by choosing a more elongated format for landscape images, with which he offered the viewer a different view than he was used to until then. During his life, he went on quite a few trips. He explored Africa, America and Europe, all the while recording interesting motifs and peculiarities from the surroundings. Ever since 1964, when he exhibited his works for the first time, he has participated in several art events at home and abroad.
