(Postojna, 1908 - Ljubljana, 1964)
Smerdu Frančišek, an academic sculptor, studied at the Probuda school in Ljubljana, where he graduated in sculpture and carving in 1927. He continued his studies at the Zagreb Academy, then completed Meštrović's specialization. After returning to Ljubljana, he began to create independently. In Smerdu's early works, we notice traces of Meštrović's facial types, hands and compositional designs. Smerdu became independent in a small sculpture, to which he added his personal lyrical note. Despite the strong content emphasis, Smerdu's sculptural form is solid and occasionally strict. As for his portraits, however, he remains a realist here and maintains a resemblance to the model (summarized from Wikipedia). For all additional information regarding the purchase and other services, you can contact us by phone or e-mail: info@portaalpina-gallery.com
