(Ljubljana, 1887 - Ljubljana, 1975)
France Zupan, a Slovenian painter, graduated from the teacher's college in 1909, then attended the private painting school of Rihard Jakopič. For some time he taught drawing at the Ljubljana Teachers' College. Zupan spent his life in Ljubljana, where he also had his own studio. He established himself as a distinctive landscape painter, who in his motifs painted mainly the motifs of Ljubljana and Slovenske gorice, as well as Carinthia, Dalmatia, Montenegro, Skopje and Sarajevo. His starting point in painting was Jakopič's color gradation of Impressionism and partly also the tradition of Art Nouveau. Later, he began to approach art to Cubism, but after a few years, his paintings became very intense again under the influence of Fauvism. The painter reached the peak of his creativity in the 1950s. Zupan painted mainly in watercolor, pastel, gouache and also in oil, later - after World War II, especially in tempera (summarized from Wikipedia). For all additional information regarding the purchase and other services, you can contact us by phone or e-mail: info@portaalpina-gallery.com
