(Bruna vas, 1922 – Ljubljana, 2018)
Milan Rijavec, a Slovenian painter, enrolled in a teacher's college in 1937 and began to paint watercolors. During the war, he met Božidar Jakac and Nikolaj Pirnat, who encouraged him to draw. After the liberation, he finished the fifth year of teacher training and enrolled at the newly established Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. After graduating, he started working as an art pedagogue at a grammar school in Trbovlje. In 1950, he enrolled in a painting specialization with Gabriel Stupica, but did not complete it because he fell ill with tuberculosis. After retiring, he was able to devote all his time to painting. In year 1971 he moved to Ljubljana, where he lived until his death. His first works are in the watercolor technique and later in the oil technique. Popular motifs are landscape, architecture, portraits and still lifes. He was interested in the Slovene village, the Knap environment and in later years the coastal architecture. He created many watercolors. His paintings approach abstraction in their color compositions, but remain faithful to realism (summarized from Wikipedia).
