Ivan Katič is one of the Slovenian artists who, in his life, strived to depict the beauty of the countryside in his immediate surroundings. He is considered one of the Slovenian naive artists, as he developed his skills on his own, without attending lectures at the art academy.

Like other artists within the aforementioned group, he was primarily interested in the countryside. With his works, he brought the viewer closer to the motifs of Slovenianness and the people who strengthen the nation and lead it forward towards the future. His works often feature farmers and workers who work hard to cultivate the fields and enable the nation to prosper, as well as simple but admirable farmhouses and buildings with haylofts. His oeuvre consists mostly of oil paintings on canvas, but some sketches have also been preserved that helped the artist in his depiction. His works remain in earthy shades, which the artist harmoniously connects with each other. He often supplemented them with a more vibrant shade, with which he broke the monotony of the canvas and gave it an even more imposing note.
Katič's works do not contain bold compositions, but they mostly follow models from nature. The scenes are painted from close up, as if the viewer is involved in the action itself. Throughout the entire period of his work, Katič developed his own recognizable style, which although follows a realistic manner of depiction, is much softer. In his images, we can feel the warmth of the sun and the murmur of water or the sound of the wind that accompanies hardworking people as they cope with everyday tasks. He has exhibited his works many times at home and abroad, as the artist himself wanted to present this intimate and beautiful rural world to a wider audience.
