(Zagorica, Dobrepolje, 1900 - Ljubljana, 1975)
A Slovenian painter, graphic artist and sculptor, he studied sculpture in Prague, and later studied in Vienna, Paris and Venice. He also studied architecture in Rome, but he was not so interested in it. He was the brother of the painter and sculptor France Kralj. Until the end of the twenties, he worked closely with his brother in the field of sculpture, and then developed his own style of monumental realism. In his early works, a soft, Art Nouveau line prevails, and the motifs of the depictions are expressively symbolic, while in later works the figures become strong, in a way robust, and with compositional designs and other artistic elements they give a specific stylistic expression. Kralj's oeuvre includes family portraits, historical scenes of peasant uprisings and wars, peasant and working life, and biblical scenes. Many of his paintings and church frescoes depict fascists as beasts, as he was an anti-fascist himself. In 1954, Tone Kralj contributed illustrations to the reprint of Levstik's story by Martin Krpan, thus consolidating his status as a great artist (summarized from Wikipedia). For all additional information regarding the purchase and other services, you can contact us by phone or e-mail: info@portaalpina-gallery.com
