Ivan Vavpotič, a Slovenian painter, illustrator and set designer, studied in Prague, Paris and Vienna. As a professor he taught at a high school in Idrija, and after leaving the professorship he lived as a freelance artist in Ljubljana. Vavpotič is considered a representative of academic realism, portraitist and vedutist. Also worth mentioning is his illustrator work and drafts for theater scenes. He is also the author of the first Slovenian postage stamps (Verigar), also used in the Kingdom of SHS (summarized from Wikipedia).-
