Rihard Jakopič - Saint Florian
In Jakopič's legacy, there are several studies for the composition of Sv. Florjana. Why he prepared the composition is not known. The shape of the design indicates a co-owner or house forehead. It is one of Jakopič's earlier attempts to carry out concrete domestic orders, such as the painting of the Kraków Chapel in 1897. Perhaps we can move it back a year or two. Jakopič, as was the custom with such orders, relied on baroque proposals from his home environment. The iconographic peculiarity is in the saint's assistants, angels pouring water from the golida. Otherwise, Jakopič rarely used watercolor or tempera. The watercolor comes from Jakopič's legacy and is documented in the National Gallery among the drawings that the heirs kept when selling most of the painter's legacy in 2012 and 2013 (Dr. Andrej Smrekar).
