Rihard Jakopič

Drawing

In the Plan for Painting the Vault in Mexico - Placing the Mouth, the Sower and the Family, Jakopič defined half of the spa vault in its components. Only the main figures are indicated. With the Family e.g. missing man. With a raised clearing, he creates a panoramic perspective of the impression of the world landscape, which continues as a suggestion behind symbolic figural groups. The study aims to balance and harmonize the global composition of the paratactic set of groups. In terms of materials, it completely coincides with many other studies commissioned by the City of Ljubljana in 1926. The study represents the pre-stage of the competition in pastel, which the painter repeated in full or in detail in pastel and oil. The drawing comes from Jakopič's legacy and is documented in the National Gallery among the drawings that the heirs kept during the sale of a large part of the painter's legacy in 2012 and 2013 (Dr. Andrej Smrekar).
