Ivan Vavpotič - Portrait of a lady in blue (Marija Korošec)
The portrait of Marija Korošec has been preserved in its original condition, not only the painting, but also the frame. Vavpotič captured the image and spirit of the woman portrayed with a soy masterful move. The portrait features a Biedermeier drawing and a psychological characterization of realism. Formally, the move is flickering and emphasizing the effects of light, especially in the background and in the edge areas. The figure of the woman portrayed is not "lost" due to light effects, but remains true to realism - it is plastically modeled, the volume is three-dimensionally defined, anatomically correctly drawn, the materials are tangible and the details precise. Let us also mention an interesting Biedermeier characteristic - this is Vavpotič's emphasis on the material presence of goods (otherwise a characteristic of the Biedermeier painter Mihael Stroj), the luster of fabrics and glittering polish. The color scheme of blue and gold tones creates a complementary relationship that brings dynamism to the motifs - in addition to the diagonal composition itself.
